Dirty Secret (Burke Brothers #1) by Emma Hart

Dirty Secret is the 1st novel in The Burke Brothers series by Emma Hart. Each book in this series can be read as a stand-alone but it helps to read them in order since all the characters appear in each book.

This book appeared in one of the BookBub emails a while ago for 99 cents so I bought it and didn’t get around to reading it until this weekend. Typically I’m not a big fan of books that have rock stars as main characters so I think that was part of the reason I was putting it off but I ended up LOVING this book.

So here is the basic premise (warning: may contain spoilers):

Sophie and Conner grew up together and were very much in love. Conner and his brothers had a garage band and on the way to hitting it big. On the day that Conner and his brothers are in LA to meet with their new manager Sophie finds out she is pregnant. She makes the decision to run away so she doesn’t ruin Conner’s chances of fame (and we later find out she also was holding on to some severe insecurities about Conner staying faithful and happy). While she is gone raising her daughter Sophie’s father passes away and eventually she returns home to live in her father’s home with her daughter, Mila.
Eventually people in the town find out that Sophie has a child and Conner sees the child and finds out it’s his. There is a bunch of emotional back and forth between Sophie and Conner and Mila is just so adorable. We also get to know a little about the other Burke Brothers. The media finds out about Mila and Sophie and Conner have to figure out how to deal with that.

I won’t say how it ends because I want you to read it.

Description
Conner Burke never expected Sofie Callahan to come back.

Where she’s been for the last two and half years is a mystery, and so is the reason she left in the first place. Now, though, she’s back in their hometown of Shelton Bay, South Carolina, at the same time Conner’s band Dirty B. is home on a tour break.

Sofie Callahan has spent the months since her father’s death avoiding anything to do with her hometown. But with her brother in Afghanistan, she has no choice but to return and sort out her father’s house, even if it means facing the boy she fell in love with and revealing the reason she left.

Conner has questions, and when his broken heart and her guilty one collide, Sofie has to start answering them. Their present is rocky, their future unknown. Only one thing is certain: Sofie’s daughter will change everything.
